Broken Wheat Rava Idli | Godhuma Rava Idli - Instant Idli Recipe


Broken wheat rava also known as samba godhumai rava in tamil  is a healthy choice of food ingredients especially with diabetes and diet seekers. Generally if something is made of a healthy ingredient doesn't attract people but this wheat rava idli will definitely make your breakfast or dinner a sumptuous one. Serve it with sambar or chutney of your choice and love the taste.

Preparation &Cooking Time: 30 minutes

YIELD : 12-14 idlis

Ingredients:

Roasted Broken Wheat Rava/ Samba Godhumai Rava - 1 1/2 cup
Sour curd /  Yogurt - 1/2 cup + more for taste
Carrot - 1/2, grated
Onion - 1 medium finely chopped
Green chilli - 2 (grind it to paste) or chop finely
Bicarbonate of  Soda - 1/4 tsp
Water as required
Salt  as required
Oil - 1 tbsp

To Season:
Mustard - 1tsp
Urad daal - 1tsp
Curry Leaves - 5 finely chopped

Method:

  1. Dry roast the broken wheat rava until you feel a good aroma if you use non roasted rava. 
  2. Heat oil in another pan and season with mustard, urad daal, curry leaves.
  3. Add the seasoning, grated carrots, green chilli paste, salt to the broken wheat rava and mix well.
  4. Add bicarbonate of soda, yogurt and required water to make a batter similar like idli batter. Set aside for 15 minutes to raise. After set time check the batter consistency, if it is too thick add generous amount of water to loosen.
  5. Grease the Idli moulds with little oil. Fill the moulds with the Idli batter to 3/4th level. Steam it in the Idli cooker for about 7 to 10 minutes.
  6. Piping hot broken wheat idlis are ready. Serve hot with sambar, coconut chutney or chutney of your choice.

Note:

  • For low calorie version use low-fat buttermilk instead of yogurt. Follow the same procedure to try semiya Idli, rava idli, oats idli.
