Kerala Chakkakuru Manga Curry | Jackfruit Mango Curry

Jackfruit Seeds and Sour Mango cooked in  spicy coconut Gravy.


This tempting kerala style chakkukkuru manga curry made me completely drool for it.  And I found  new way to utilize the seeds in making curry rather than adding in sambhar. Yes everytime my mom use to add the seeds in sambar.

I got this recipe from one of my neighborhood friend. She said chakkakuru, manga with Murukka curry is a seasonal dish is kerala and most popular in  keralite home. Here I didn't use Drumstick, you can use as per preference. This is a delectable combination in spicy coconut curry. The spicy curry serves as a good accompaniment with rice or roti.


Preparation & Cooking Time : 20 Minutes

YIELD : 2 -3 Servings

Ingredients:

Jack fruit Seeds / Chakkakuru - 1 cup
Manga / Sour Raw Mango - 1 no.
Green Chilli - 4-5 no.
Mustard Seeds -1 tso
Curry Leaves - 8
Ginger - 1tbsp minced
Shallots / Small Onion / Pearl onion - 3 roughly chopped
Salt To Taste
Oil - 2 tbsp


To Grind:
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Red Chilli - 4 no.
Roasted Coriander Seeds - 2 tsp
Shallots - 1/3 cup, peeled
Garlic Cloves - 4no.
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp

Method:

  1. Pressure the jack fruit seeds until soft. Peel and halve the seeds or cut as desired. Keep aside.
  2. Grind the ingredients under "to grind" to fine paste.
  3. Cut the manga into bite size or little bigger cubes. Slit the green chilli. Heat a wok with oil. Stir in the green chilli, ginger, cut mangoes, a generous pinch of turmeric  and  salt . Cover and cook for 5-8 minutes  or until mango gets soft. If you don't want to use mango with peels. remove and cook.
  4. Stir in the cooked jackfruit seeds and ground paste. Pour in about 2/3 cup of water. Allow it to boil and reduce high to low fire. Check for salt and add more as per taste. Cook for 5 more minutes.
  5. Now in a fry add about a tbsp of oil to prepare seasoning.  Once hot stir in the mustard seeds, allow to splutter, throw in the curry leaves and shallots. Saute well.
  6. Pour this seasoning over the curry. Serve hot with rice or roti as per your choice.

Note:

  • Cook drumstick and manga seperately before adding to the curry to reduce cooking time.
  • If you find manga tastes more sour, just reduce few pieces.
  • Adjust water as per the thickness of the curry.
