Maanga Aval Upma | Easy Tiffin Recipe Under 15 Minutes

Tangy and spicy Aval upma with mango infusion.


Poha is always a handy ingredient in my kitchen, as it makes delicious meal instantly and it blends well with any combination. I personally finds it to be an easy option for making tiffin recipes. Usually we all have tried mango rice, but never thought of with Aval/ Poha  rite. Infact this upma is much more easiest choice that takes less than 15 minutes. I'm  sure that this maanga aval would defiintely going to be hit at home. check for other raw mango recipes.

Preparation & Cooking Time : 15 Minutes

YIELD :  2 Serving

Ingredients:

Thin / Thick Flatten Rice (Poha/Aval) - 2 Cups
Grated raw mango - 1 cup
Onion - 1 Large thinly sliced
Broken Red Chilli - 4 no.
Green Chilli - 2 no. 
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves few spring
Asafeotida a pinch
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp

Method:
  1. Wash the flatten rice in the running water to remove the dirt. If using thin rice, pass to colander, wash and drain. Keep aside to fluff up. Or If using the thick rice, wash well and soak in cold water just needed to fluff up.
  2. Mean while heat oil in a wok. Add mustard seeds and wait till it splutter, then throw in the cumin, urad dal, curry leaves, broken chilli and asafeotida. 
  3. Now add the thinly sliced onion and saute with a pinch of salt  to cook fast.
  4. Add the grated mango with turmeric powder. Saute finely to infuse its aroma. 
  5. Include the soaked poha / flatten rice and mix well. Sprinkle water if it looks dry. Cook for few more minutes to soften. Add needed salt for taste.
  6. Serve with any chutney of your choice.

Note:

  • Use white flatten rice thick / thin as per choice, but remember the tips mentioned in  STEP 1.
  • Add some roasted peanut powder to flavour up the upma.
  • Adjust  the grated mango as per the sourness, increase/decrease accordingly.
