Pattani Kurma | Easy Green Peas Kurma - No Onion, No Garlic

                                                                                                                                               
No onion no garlic easy and tasty green peas curry.


This recipe is as simple as delicious that doesn't need more then 15 minutes of preparation time and 15 minutes of cooking time. When the seasonal vegetables arrives the market, it our prior preference to use it as maximum. This is one such recipe I use to opt for when fresh green peas are in market. This fresh peas is available during winter / spring time.

Sometimes I use to buy fresh peas in bulk, zip lock and freeze it for longer life. So can be used as needed. Green peas are loaded with vital nutrients like vitamin A, C, B-1, B-6. So I often use peas in my cooking for upma, khichidi, with sabzis. Try this kurma with jeera pulao, Phulka, Aapam.

YIELD : 3 servings

Ingredients:

Fresh Green peas - 1 cup
Tomato - 2 finely chopped
Turmeric Powder -1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves Few springs
Cinnamon Stick / dal chini  - 1/2" piece
Cloves / lavang - 2no.
Salt To taste
Oil - 1 1/2 tbsp

To Grind Masala:
Grated Coconut - 3 tbsp
Fried Gram / Roasted Dhal  - 1 tbsp
Red Chilli - 3-4no.
Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp

Method:

  1. Grind together coconut, red chilli, coriander, fried gram with little water  to smooth paste. keep aside.
  2. Heat  oil in a pressure pan. Season with cinnamon stick. Add tomatoes and saute for couple of minute.
  3. Add green peas and ground masala, turmeric powder and salt. Saute well. Pour in required water for gravy consistency.
  4. Cover the lid and cook on medium flame for 2 sounds / whistles. Wait till pressure gets released.  Open and stir well, garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  5. Serve with Pulao, Idiyyappam, Roti as a accompaniment.

Note:


  • If you do not find fresh peas, use frozen peas( thaw it before use).
  • You can even do cook with dried white peas, soak overnight and pressure cook for 4-5 sounds.
