 Gujjus are always fan of food with extreme flavor either its sweetness or spiciness. Lasaniya bateta is a fiery, hot, spicy and extra garlic flavored potato curry...It can be enjoyed just like snack or starter if made with lil oil and thick gravy along with frymus or peanuts or anything crunchy. Or simply can be served with roti if made with oily and watery gravy...Here is recipe of Lasaniya Bateta...

YIELD –3 servings


Baby Potatoes - 15 nos.
Garlic chutney - 1 tbsp (Check the recipe Here)
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Hing a pinch
Salt as per taste
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder -  1 tsp
Chili Powder- 1 tsp 
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Coriander - for garnishing

For Gravy:
Dry Kashmiri Red chili - 3 nos.
Garlic - 12-15 cloves
Onion - 1 medium
Ginger - 1" piece
Tomato - 1 medium 


  1. Peel off the skin of potatoes and parboil them.It should not cooked too much.
  2. Slit without halving them and stuff them with garlic chutney. Keep aside.
  3. Soak the dry red chili in hot water for 5 minutes and grind a coarse paste of all the ingredients given for gravy.
  4. Heat the oil in large pan, add cumin seeds and hing.
  5. Add in above prepared paste and mix well. Add all the dry spices powder i.e. salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala. mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Once oil start to  ooze out separately add potatoes in it. Toss potatoes carefully making sure it doesn't not break.
  7. Cook again for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with Roti or Paratha.


  • If you don't have baby potatoes  simply use large potato diced in a big cubes.
  • Adjust spiciness according to your taste..
