Churma Na Ladoo / Wheat Flour Ladoo ~ Vinayakar Chaturthi Prasadam

Wishing you happiness as big as Ganesh’s appetite; life is long as his trunk; trouble as small as his mouse; and moments as sweet as his laddus. Best wishes on Ganesh Chaturthi!!!!

Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without Lord's Favourite Ladoos. Every  year we serve him with our traditional Gujarati Ladoos called Churma Na Ladoo. Gujaratis and brahmin community in particular are very fond of these Ladoos. They made from wheat flour and ghee and it gets its sweetness from jaggery. Guajarati Brahmin's feast is incomplete without Churma Na Ladoo during festivals and weddings. Follow the recipe here and learn how to make Churma Ladoo.

Churma Na Ladoo / Wheat Flour Ladoo

YIELD –15 Ladoos

Ingredients:

  1. Wheat Flour - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Rawa (Semolina) - 1 1/2 cup
  3. Milk - 1/2 Cup
  4. Ghee - 2 tbsp
  5. Oil for Frying
  6. Shredded Jaggery - 1/2 cup (adjust as per your taste)
  7. Powdered Sugar- 3 tbsp
  8. Elaichi Powder - 1 tbsp
  9. Cashew - 2 tbsp
  10. Ghee - 1 cup
  11. Khus Khus (Poppy Seeds) / Sesame Seeds for Garnishing

Method:

  1. Take wheat flour, and add rawa and ghee to it. Add milk and knead a very though dough. Add warm water if required.
  2. Make small balls or muthias out of this dough. Heat ghee or oil and deep fry these wheat balls till they turn brown in color. Once the wheat balls are fried, allow them to cool.
  3. Once the balls are cool down grind them coarsely in a food processor. The consistency should be of a coarse powder. Add elaichi powder, sugar powder and chopped cashew nuts in the grinded wheat powder.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan, add shredded jaggery and allow jaggery to melt in the ghee, spread this mixture in the grinded wheat powder. Mix well with ghee, jaggery and wheat mixture with the help of a stapulla. Don't mix it with your hands as it will burn them as the ghee and jaggery mixture is very hot.
  5. Once properly mixed, apply small amount of ghee on ur palms, take above prepared mixture and make small round balls or ladoos by pressing it in between your palms. (Make the ladoos when the mixture is still hot or warm. Once the mixture will cool down ghee will start setting hard and it will be hard to make balls out of mixture.)
  6. Roll the ladoos in khus khus or sesame seeds for garnishing.
  7. Allow them to cool and place them in the air tight container. They can be stored for almost 1 week.

Note:

  • The other traditional method of making this laddos is to make first bhakris instead of muthias. If you want to follow the traditional method than check the bhakri recipe here.
  • Replace the above first 2 steps by making bhakri and make healthy traditional Churma Ladoo.
  • Traditional recipe also needs to add Jaiphal powder along with elaichi for more flavor.
