Pasi Paruppu Payasam

Paruppu payasam is a healthy and yummy payasam made out of split moong dhal. This is made for festivals as an offering (Neivedhiyam) for God. This is also made for feasts in south india and served between rasam rice and curd rice. Make this paruppu payasam following the steps given

Pasi Paruppu Payasam
 

YIELD – 4 SERVINGS

Ingredients:

Split Moong dhal - 1 cup
Jaggery - 350 grams
Grated Coconut - 4 tbsp.
Cardamom - 2
Cashews - 10
Ghee - 2 tbsp.

Method:

  1. Dry roast the split moong dhal in a pan.
  2. Roast the cashews in little ghee.
  3. Crush the jaggery well.
  4. In a pan put the crushed jaggery and add water to the jaggery level.
  5. Boil this until all the jaggery dissolves.
  6. Strain it through a mesh to remove impurities from the jaggery.
  7. Boil the moong dhal with sufficient water until it is cooked to a mashable consistency.
  8. Mash the moong dhal well.
  9. Add jaggery syrup to the moong dhal.
  10. Add grated coconut, cashews and cardamom to this.
  11. Finally add ghee and put off the stove.
  12. The Paruppu payasam is ready to be served.
  13. Serve hot or cold as your desire.
