Kollu Idli / Horse gram Idli

Horse gram is a member of the legume family that has many good medicinal properties. Horse gram taken regularly will cure kidney stones, obesity, cancer and more. Trust me i didn't find much of taste difference from the original idli version we prepare normally. I used the same batter to make crispy dosa also. Make this kollu idli or dosa to makeup your diet chart now.

Kollu Idli / Horse Gram Idli

 

YIELD – 16

Ingredients:

Idly rice - 2 cups
Raw rice - 1 handful
Horse gram - 1/2 cup
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Salt - as required

Method:

  1. Wash and clean horse gram and soak it in water for about 10 hours.
  2. Wash and saok idli rice, raw rice and fenugreek seeds for 3 hours.
  3. Discard the soaked water and grind the horse gram with water and keep aside.
  4. Discard the soaked water and grind the rice combination like we do for idli batter.
  5. Mix the ground rice and ground horse gram to combine well.
  6. Add the required salt and ferment it overnight.
  7. Once it ferments pour it in idli moulds and steam it in a steamer for 10 minutes to make this kollu idli.
  8. Serve hot with chutney of your choice and sambar.

Note:

I made dosa with the same batter and got a crispy dosa.
