Prawn Briyani

Prawns have lot of Omega-3 fatty acids and low in fat. Make this prawn briyani combined with pepper, ginger, garlic and dry chillies for a tempting taste and enjoy this one pot dish for lunch to have a treat.


Prawn Briyani


YIELD –3 SERVINGS

Ingredients:

Prawn - 500 grams
Basmathi rice- 1 cup
Onion -1
Dry chilli - 5
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Garlic - 5 cloves
Pepper corn - 1 tsp.
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp.
Salt - as required
Oil + Ghee - 4 tsp.
Whole Garam Masala:
Cinnamon - 1" stick
Cardamom- 2
Cloves - 2
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Star anise - 2 petals

Method:

  1. Soak basmathi rice for 1/2 an hour. Drain it and fry it in 1 tbsp. ghee.
  2. Devein prawns and clean it well (This will yield about 250 - 300 grams of prawn).
  3. Grind dry chilli, ginger, garlic, pepper corn to a fine paste with little water.
  4. In a cooker, Heat oil and ghee together.
  5. Add whole garam masala.
  6. Once it is fried well add onions and the ground paste and saute until onions turn translucent and the raw smell disappears.
  7. Add prawns, turmeric powder, salt needed for prawn and cook well.
  8. Add sufficient water for prawn (approximately 1/4 cup) and let it boil.
  9. Add 1 and a 1/2 cup of water, salt for rice and let it boil. 
  10. Add the basmathi rice. Close cooker and cook by simmeringfor about 7 minutes after first whistle.
  11. Mouth watering prawn briyani is ready. Serve hot with Onion or cucumber raitha.
