Homemade Tortilla Recipe


Tortillas, famous flatbreads from Mexico made from wheat or plain flour, used for making chips, wraps, soups, and mains. They are easy to buy now-everywhere, but make them fresh yourself and taste the difference!


Just imagine how we as Indian try naan with variations like butter or garlic or phudina or cheese naan. Same way tortillas are used in mexican cuisine to try exotic recipe like fujitas, burritos, tacos, quasedillas, enchiladas and many other dishes. These are ideal for wraps and rolls. I just love tortilla with guacamole. It is as simple as delicious to have almost at time.

Preparation & cooking Time:
Resting Time:60 minutes
YIELD : 10-12 Tortillas
Ingredients:
All-purpose flour/Maida - 2 cups
Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
Salt as per taste
Butter – ¼ cup

Method:


1. In a deep bowl combine all the ingredients and mix well.

2. Slowly add warm water as required to form soft dough.
3. Knead well and give it a rest for 1 hour.
4. Make even size small balls of the dough and roll them separately into a round shape. Dust         them with flour while rolling when required.
5. Cook tortillas in both sides in flat tava (griddle).
6. Cool completely and refrigerate for later use. Tortilla can stay good for upto one week. For         longer shelf-life freeze it . Defrost and use as needed.


Note:
  • If you want to make variations using diffrent flours  i.e. wheat flour or Whole meal flour or corn flour and mix grain flour. Use equal proportion of plain flour(APF) and other flour.  
  • Use using different spices i.e. garlic, chili, pepper to add-on flavours.
  • Tortillas can be done in different sizes to make variety of dishes as tacos, wraps, fajitas, burritos etc.
